Advocacy Basic Survival Guide

This specialist course is aimed at non-lawyers and lawyers in Local Authorities who are starting out on presenting cases

The course will:

  • Give you confidence in presenting guilty pleas, and presentations in the County Court
  • Show you how to present the case for the Prosecution and/or Claimant
  • Show you how to tackle examination in chief
  • Help you to deal with problems and the unexpected
  • Develop your confidence as an advocate
  • Deal with the control of your nerves!
  • Teach you about eye contact, poise and posture

The aim is to give encouragement and to allow delegates to practice, in a workshop style, presentation of cases in the Magistrates and the County Court.

You will learn about:

  • Presentation skills – establishing rapport with the court
  • Making yourself understood
  • How to use notes and how to handle papers
  • Dealing with witnesses
  • Basic court procedure
