Implementing Codes of Conduct - the revised Members' Code and the new Employees' Code

By the time of this course, we anticipate that the Government will have published a revised Members' Code of Conduct and the new Employees' Code.

In this course, Bevan Brittan Local Government Partner, Peter Keith-Lucas will explain the changes in the Members' Code, and particularly the application of the Code of Conduct to private life under the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007, and go through the practical steps required to implement the amended Code.

Peter will then be joined by Bevan Brittan Employment Partner, Sarah Lamont, to set out the new Employees' Code of Conduct and how it will be made part of all employees' terms and conditions of employment. The draft Employees' Code would over-ride and conflict with existing contract terms, and would require all authorities to introduce a Register of Outside Interests for all senior officers. Again, Sarah's intention is to provide a practical guide to the steps required of local authorities to implement the new Employees' Code and to alert delegates to the danger areas.
